In the past, open-source projects have largely built their communities and operations around human developers: clear wikis, readable code comments, and user-friendly graphical dashboards. However, with the rapid rise of large language models and AI agents, open-source codebases and infrastructure are now facing a whole new kind of user. In the future, open-source projects should not only be easy and enjoyable for humans to use, but also structured in a way that AI can “understand” and “debug” effectively.

From the perspective of the open-source ecosystem, this analysis explores how open-source projects can become more “AI-friendly” in the age of AI. Using Apache Seata as a starting point, we will introduce our journey toward AI-oriented optimization.
